What is URL Forwarding, or Web Forwarding?
Web Forwarding is a convenient way to attach a custom domain name to an existing Web site. If your existing Web site is located at a long web URL, you can set up Web Forwarding so that your visitors can reach the site by entering "http://your-company-name.com" in their browser. For more information, please see our Domain Name Services section.
How does Web Forwarding work?
The forwarding process occurs on NameSecure's servers. When someone tries to access your new Web address, NameSecure's servers tell the browser to access the existing page at its URL instead. The page then loads into their browser window. The process is completely transparent to the end user.
How do I specify the Web Forwarding address?
You can use the Web Settings in the My Account area to set your forwarding address. You can update the Web Forwarding address as often as you like. There is no charge to update your forwarding information.
How long will it be before changes to my Web Forwarding are effective?
The change request will take up to 24 hours to take effect.
Do I have to add a "www" to the domain name for it to resolve?
Domain names can function with or without a "www", and can be used capitalized, in lower case, or in mixed case. In other words, www.gonamesecure.com will work the same as gonamesecure.com. (This may not apply with other registrars - it is determined by the domain's zone file.)
How can I control how search engines rank my site when Web Forwarding is in effect?
Many search engines read the information in the Title and Meta tags of pages when analyzing a site. If you use the URL Gripper with your Web Forwarding, you can define these tags in My Account. The URL Gripper will add the tags automatically to help search engines rank your site. (See the URL Gripper section in Products and Services for details.) If you are not using the URL Gripper, you can add Title and Meta tags to your pages yourself.
What if I don't have a site yet, but I want a domain name to work?
If you don't have an existing Web site, we can forward a domain name to an under construction web page or a One-Page Mini-Site. That way your customers will see a working Web page while you are building your site. For more information, please see our Domain Name Services section.
